Kenmore selected as Akron’s third Better Block neighborhood

 

Akron’s Kenmore neighborhood will undergo a two-day transformation Sept. 1 and 2 as it hosts Better Block, a neighborhood engagement effort in which residents will reshape and reactivate their community’s built environment.

Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance will host a kickoff meeting May 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rialto Theatre at 1000 Kenmore Boulevard. Residents, business and property owners, and other stakeholders are invited to share their ideas for the business district. Project Shine

Many negative things have been written about today’s youth- how they are self-(or selfie) centered and lazy.  In today’s blog, though, we’d like to share a different side of local teens as they serve with one of our partner ministries, Project Shine.

Project Shine’s mission is “to connect individuals to Christ through basic home improvement and ministry in our communities, while spiritually investing in our participants.”  Area youth commit to serve for a week (late afternoon Sunday through Friday evening) where they are challenged both physically in their work teams, as well as, spiritually during daily devotions and praise and worship times.

Akron Art Museum expands Inside|Out project this year with more outdoor art

The Akron Art Museum’s second year of the community-activated art project, Inside|Out will expand its reach in 2016. The museum will partner with eight new neighborhoods to install 40 art reproductions from the museum’s collection in and around the city.

Last year, the museum installed 30 reproductions at outdoor locations in six neighborhoods in and around the Akron area. Inside|Out was made possible by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Akron Police Department Develops New Team to Tackle Biggest Local Issues (Part One)

With never-ending calls pouring in daily to the Akron Police Department (APD), have you ever wondered what some of their biggest concerns for this area are?

We recently visited the APD to get the inside scoop, and found there’s something big that they’re working on to greatly improve our area.

Their Neighborhood Response Teams (NRT) came together this past spring thanks to a grant, and much good has come from it.
