FCCLA Students Serve Food They Prepared for the Attendees
On November 19th, Project Rise and Kenmore-Garfield High School hosted a special Thanksgiving event for families experiencing homelessness. This is the 12th annual Harvest Dinner event and the 3rd year that the event was held at Kenmore-Garfield High School.

Families Experiencing Homelessness (Project Rise) in Collaboration with First United Methodist Church and the Magical Theatre Company
On April 17th, several families experiencing homelessness were able to experience a special Dinner Theatre Event hosted by Project Rise and First United Methodist Church in Akron. This special event was part of the Project Rise PACT (Performing Arts Can Teach) Program.

On Wednesday, December 19th, OPEN M will once again open its doors for their “Christmas for the Love of Children” program. Each year OPEN M partners with the Akron Public Schools counselors to identify the most in-need families within the district. This year over 580 children in nearly 200 different families were identified through APS, as well as OPEN M’s internal programing. Continue reading

This November, Project Rise and Kenmore-Garfield High School hosted the 11th Annual Project Rise Harvest Dinner for the students and families experiencing homelessness. The Harvest Dinner gives these families and youth the opportunity to celebrate this festive time of year with food, fun and friendship. The evening included arts and literacy activities, parent-child activities, Thanksgiving dinner, giveaways, and entertainment. Altogether, around 125 attendees enjoyed the special evening!

Fun activity booklets were passed out to the families that related to the play
On April 25th, several families experiencing homelessness were able to experience a special Dinner Theatre Event hosted by Project Rise and First United Methodist Church in Akron. This special event was part of the Project Rise PACT (Performing Arts Can Teach) Program.
The PACT program is just one of several special programs under Project Rise. The PACT program is one of the core programs for Project Rise because it meets the educational, social, and cultural needs of the students and families served.
Project Rise is a collaborative effort by Akron Public Schools, local shelters and the Akron community to provide supplemental educational services to youth experiencing homelessness. So far, close to 1,900 students have been identified and served by Project Rise for the 2017-2018 school year.
