Families Experiencing Homelessness (Project Rise) in Collaboration with First United Methodist Church and the Magical Theatre Company
On April 17th, several families experiencing homelessness were able to experience a special Dinner Theatre Event hosted by Project Rise and First United Methodist Church in Akron. This special event was part of the Project Rise PACT (Performing Arts Can Teach) Program.

So many cool things happen in Cleveland that we in Akron could tap into to our benefit, but somehow that 40 minute drive up 77 seems overwhelming. Gina Burk instigated an Akron contingent – Stephenie Leonardi (aka Leo) with Summit Lake Build Corp, Beth Vild with Big Love, and myself – to visit a performance at Cleveland Public Theater Saturday evening, January 27th. Here’s what we found:

Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided with Naloxone) is a community-based drug overdose prevention and education project. Participants receive training on recognizing the signs and symptoms of overdose, distinguishing between different types of overdose, performing rescue breathing, calling emergency medical services and administering intranasal Naloxone. The project seeks to provide free training, as well as a kit containing the potentially life-saving drug naloxone (aka, Narcan), to combat the serious problem of opioid overdose deaths.
