You’re 18 and too old for foster care. Now what?

Imagine you just had your 18th birthday and you’ve been in foster care most of your life. You’re 18.  Now you are legally an adult. For one reason or another you have no family to rely on. You are on your own.

Now what? Where do you go? Where do you live? How do you support yourself? What if you get ill? These are weighty problems for an 18-year-old.

But do not despair. There is help. It’s called Summit Up.

Love Akron Connects Local Leaders in Prayer

Monthly breakfasts support various
sectors of the marketplace

The Love Akron Network hosts Love Akron Connect on the last Wednesday of every month. These prayer breakfasts bring communities members together to support each other.

Each breakfast is held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Akron and focuses on a different sector of the marketplace. In February, the focus was healthcare.  Love Akron invited employees from various healthcare-related organizations in the Akron area.

Akron Community Foundation approves $2.7 million in education grants

Akron Community Foundation recently announced grants totaling $2,724,593, including $2,187,193 from designated, donor-advised, agency endowment and scholarship funds, and $537,400 in competitive education and early learning grants awarded by its Community Investment Committee.

Nearly all competitive funding went to organizations aligned with Summit Education Initiative’s Cradle to Career continuum, which focuses on key transition points throughout a student’s life, beginning with early learning and kindergarten readiness and culminating in high school graduation, college/career readiness and living-wage employment.
